If you are looking to improve your effectiveness as an association employee or partner, investing time to deepen your understanding of the composition, legal status, governance structure, and core activities of an association is perhaps the fastest way to achieve your goal.

The Association Basics program will be delivered in two 4-hour sessions. Attendees will receive 8 CAE & CMP credits for participating in the workshop.  Attendees will participate in breakout rooms and use a workbook to engage and discuss topics with other association professionals.

  • Explain the volunteer governance structure of an association board and its supporting committees.
  • Provide a comprehensive understanding of membership types, benefits, and engagement tactics.
  • Depict the operational intricacies of local sections and chapters functioning within the association.
  • Identify effective techniques for nurturing and supporting volunteers and their respective committees.

Matt Miller, Chief Executive Officer, CLARB is an association executive with 19 years of experience in managing and leading mission-driven organizations and currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer for the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB).  Read full bio.



Nicole Boston Headshot

Principal, Boston Consulting

Nicole Boston is a certified association executive (CAE) with 25 years of experience in the engineering industry. She previously served as Deputy Director of Fiatech, an industry-led consortium in the Cockrell School of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin focused on deploying new technologies to improve capital projects. Before that, she served as executive director of the Building Futures Council as well as held senior management positions at the Civil Engineering Research Foundation at the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Read full bio.
